The travails of Michael Fanone

As I read the different articles on Michael Fanone in light of his book being published, I am filled with dismay. He responded to the vicious attack at the Capitol, got hurt, and because he spoke out about it, he is vilified by the so-called “Back the Blue” folks in the Republican party. Even worse, he is ostracized by fellow police officers and the police unions who are reflexily outraged over any sign of Animus against cops. I understand his bitterness, and am sad for him. If I ever met him, I would give him a big hug.

That being said, there was something that popped out at me. In the Politico article, it was mentioned that a member of the D.C Council was not willing to honor him and others who defended the Capitol because they said most of their constituents hated the police. I do not cast aspersions on people who really suffer police abuse, which is a very real problem and an issue that I care about. But January 6th was policing at its finest, and the members of the D.C council should recognize them to highlight to their residents policing done the right way. Those D.C police officers who responded certainly deserve it.
