Local Involvement: An Update.

Update on the fight for a Student Based Health Center in Killingly CT:

The Killingly Board of Education has opened the door to contracting with another health based company, Community Health Center Inc in order to provide behavioral health services for students. They have created an Ad-Hoc committee that will take the lead in this front. There was a hearing on this potential new proposal this past Wednesday where Community Health Center gave their presentation. The Ad Hoc committee said that there will be another meeting about this in the future. The Killingly Board also said that it is negotiating a date with the State Board of Education on when an inquiry on this matter will occur. The inquiry, which was approved at the last State Board meeting in early November, will examine whether the Killingly Board failed to make reasonable provisions for it’s students.

This seems like a breakthrough. However, it is unknown when the next scheduled meeting will occur, and nothing has about this proposal has been set in stone. Another thing to note, this potential contract with the Community Health Center Inc will cost the town money, whereas the original proposal with Generations Health wouldn’t have used any taxpayer money at all. This could mean this new service could end if the town needs to save money in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates.
