Grodence Here.
As we observe Memorial Day, it is important to reflect and remember our soldiers who perished while fighting to uphold American values1. But while this holiday is officially dedicated to them, we should take this opportunity to pay tribute to people who have died on duty at all kinds of jobs, as this post that I wrote several months ago does. Beyond that, I challenge people to take a moment to reflect and remember anybody who has put themselves at risk to help others, whether they involve loss of life or not. From the teachers who ran towards the shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School and died protecting those kids, to the parent or stranger who jumps into a river to save someone who is drowning, we should think and celebrate the heroism that happens amongst ordinary people.
Happy Memorial Day.
